Theatr Cymru is delighted to share the venues and dates of the national tour of Te Angladd by Gruffudd Owen, a sequel to the hugely successful comedy play Parti Priodas. With support from Galeri Caernarfon, this new play will open at Galeri on 23 February 2027 before touring across Wales until 19 March 2027.
Hymns, tributes and the laying‑to‑rest of the buffet, Te Angladd is a tender and compelling new play that revisits the lovable characters, witty writing and timeless themes that entertained Parti Priodas audiences at the Llŷn and Eifionydd National Eisteddfod 2023 and on a national tour in 2024.
This new play follows the paths of the main characters Lowri and Idris after the events of the first play and the original actors – Mared Llywelyn and Mark Henry-Davies – return to their roles in this new play.
Theatr Cymru won the UK Theatre Award for Excellence in Touring for the Parti Priodas tour in 2024 – with the extensive tour visiting a variety of venues, including a rugby club and the Machynlleth Comedy Festival. The company is proud to build on that work with the Te Angladd tour going even further to reach audiences on their doorstep.
Steffan Donnelly, Theatr Cymru's Artistic Director, said:
“It’s fantastic to announce that Te Angladd will be touring Wales next spring, visiting venues large and small throughout February and March.
Winning the 2024 UK Theatre Award for Excellence in Touring for Parti Priodas was a hugely proud moment for everyone at Theatr Cymru. It was wonderful recognition of the connection that production made with audiences across Wales, and we’re delighted to be building on that success with Te Angladd.
Returning to the same community touring model, we’re taking theatre directly to communities across the country once again. With Gruff’s trademark wit, relatable and deeply Welsh themes, and unforgettable performances from Mared and Mark, we can’t wait to welcome audiences back into this world with its sequel, Te Angladd.”
As well as this new play, Theatr Cymru is taking Parti Priodas on a limited international tour this year, with performances at the London Welsh Centre on 27 and 28 August and at the North American Festival of Wales (NAFOW) on 2 September. This will be the first Welsh-language performance as the main event of this special festival in Springfield, Massachusetts.
