The aim of this collection is to provide an opportunity for lecturers, teachers, students, pupils, educationalists and learners an opportunity to watch, study and enjoy Welsh-language theatre. Closed captions in both English and Welsh are available for every production in the collection.

2008 was the first time for us to record an archive copy of a production in order to keep a record of the company’s work – Siwan by Saunders Lewis. We filmed the production using one camera and recording the sound from the stage. In 2016, at Sherman Theatre, we recorded Mrs Reynolds a’r Cena Bach by Gary Owen (translated by Meic Povey), with five cameras and sound recorded through a special sound stream as part of a live streaming pilot of a theatre show. Then, on 14 February 2017, a site-specific production of Macbeth – Shakespeare’s classic play, in a new translation by the late Gwyn Thomas – was broadcast from Caerphilly Castle to venues throughout Wales as part of a new initiative, Theatr Gen Byw.

Since then, we have filmed most of our productions so that we can share them on-line with the education sector, and support studies in Drama, Welsh and English in Wales. This collection is available free of charge to the education sector in Wales, and more information about additional learning resources can be found below.
