Developing the skills of young writers is very important to us at Theatr Gen and our Young Playwrights Scheme has been running in conjunction with Urdd Gobaith Cymru and S4C and BBC Studio for two years now.
We have been extremely fortunate to collaborate with the Urdd once again on a project giving some of our young playwrights the opportunity to write and compose new scripts for Eisteddfod yr Urdd Sir Gâr 2023.
We brought together 6 young playwrights with connections to Carmarthenshire to spend a period of 6 weeks developing their ideas through mentorship and writing support from director Sarah Bickerton.
The 6 playwrights are:

Mirain Jones
Del Evans
Mared Roberts
Martha Ifan
Rhiannon Williams
The scripts by the young playwrights are based on legends based in Carmarthenshire and are suitable for year 5 and 6 primary school pupils. The aim is that the county's primary school children will perform this new work at The Urdd National Eisteddfod, under the direction of Carys Edwards and a creative crew, as well as the county's teachers.
