We're delighted to welcome Glain Llwyd as our Young Resident Playwright for 2026-27 after she won the Drama Medal at this year's Urdd Eisteddfod.

Glain Llwyd is originally from Talybont, near Aberystwyth, and now lives in Cardiff after graduating with a BA in Performance from the Wales Academy of Voice and Dramatic Arts. She attended Ysgol Gynradd Talybont and Ysgol Gyfun Penweddig.

Glain has been performing on stage since she was young as a member of Aberystwyth Arts Centre's Youth Theatre and Cwmni Theatr Arad Goch's drama clubs. Glain is a member of the Urdd's Youth Theatre and will be performing one of the main roles in the new musical Calon this August - an Urdd Youth Theatre production in association with Theatr Cymru.

The Drama Medal at the Urdd Eisteddfod is awarded for writing an original script for a short play between 15 and 30 minutes for up to 3 performers. As part of the prize, the winner every year becomes Theatr Cymru's Young Resident Playwright for a one-year period and receives a package of support especially curated to them.

Glain won the award for her short play Tishe Plant, which explores the lives and experiences of two young people in a witty, honest and relevant way. Over the next year, Glain will have the opportunity to work closely with Theatr Cymru as our Young Resident Playwright, and we're excited to hear more about her ideas.
