Calling young people in Palestine and Wales!
ASHTAR Theatre and Theatr Cymru are looking for creative participants aged 16 – 25 from Palestine and Wales to take part in a new cross-cultural project.
Harnessing the power of poetry and theatre as universal languages, participants will take part in a series of online workshops designed to amplify young voices and foster intercultural understanding. The workshops will be led by Sian Elin James, our Participation Co-ordinator at Theatr Cymru, and Konrad Suder Chatterjee, Communication Officer and Resource Developer for ASHTAR Theatre, with artists / poets from Palestine and Wales leading parts of the workshops
A melting pot of languages, cultures and aspirations, this project will culminate with a collaborative trilingual poem in Arabic, Welsh and English, as well as a short film featuring young participants in Palestine and Wales. You will have the opportunity to be part of this filming – dates to be confirmed.
The weekly workshops will start on 12 October 2024 and will take place on Saturdays, 10am – 12pm for our participants in Wales and 12pm – 2pm for our participants in Palestine. All participants are welcome – whether they can attend all four sessions or not.
If you’d like to take part, please complete the form below by 1 October 2024.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the aim of the project?
This project aims to provide opportunities for young people from Palestine and Wales to engage in meaningful cultural exchange, dialogue and collaboration. Our workshops will empower young participants to share their stories (if they want to) and perspectives, as well as develop their artistic skills and confidence.
When will the project start?
The project will start on 12 October and will include weekly sessions on three consecutive Saturdays. There will be a week’s break for half term and we will then resume for two additional sessions to complete the project.
How much do participants need to pay?
The project is free for participants to attend.
I don’t have any creative experience. Can I take part?
Of course. You don’t need to have any prior experience to attend, and anyone is welcome.
How will you safeguard the participants?
This project not only celebrates the artistic expressions of young people from Palestine and Wales but also acknowledges the profound challenges of conflict and displacement facing the Palestinian participants. ASHTAR Theatre and Theatr Genedlaethol Cymru will foster a supportive environment and create a safe space for all participants to express their feelings. This will include an opening session for each group which covers the safeguarding procedures and the steps we’ll be taking to protect participant wellbeing. Regular debrief sessions will be held between both organisations, addressing any safeguarding concerns as they arise.
How do I get involved?
If you’d like to take part in the project, please apply via this form.
