Following a national call-out, Theatr Cymru is thrilled to announce the four playwrights that are a part of Wes Wes! this year: Carwyn Blayney, Leo Drayton, Geraint Lewis and Grug Muse – with Llinos Mai writing the prologue and epilogue to bring the four short plays together.
Following the tremendous success of Wrecslam! (2025), Ha/Ha! (2024) and Rwan/ Nawr (2023), Wes Wes! will offer an hour of short comedy plays at Caffi Maes B and provide a platform for new writing by Welsh playwrights.
Bringing their talent, imagination and mischief to Caffi Maes B this year are…
Originally from Ceredigion, Carwyn Blayney is a comedian who has written for various comedy programmes on BBC Radio Four, Wales and Scotland, as well as the comedy play Wisgi with Cwmni Theatr Bara Caws in 2025.
Leo Drayton is a queer writer from Cardiff, and his first stage play Dynolwaith (Frân Wen) was included in The Stage's Top 50 UK Shows for 2025.
Tregaron’s Geraint Lewis returns to the line-up after his short comedy Byd Donna Tan y Pandy was performed as part of Ha/Ha! at the Rhondda Cynon Taf National Eisteddfod 2024.
Grug Muse is a poet and writer from Dyffryn Nantlle, and is part of the Cyhoeddiadau’r Stamp team. Her book merch y llyn won the Poetry Book of the Year award in 2022.
Originally from Pembrokeshire, Llinos Mai is an award-winning comedy writer, songwriter and performer whose extensive writing career includes The Harri-Parris, Meiddio Meddwl and Anthem.
The successful playwrights are now developing their scripts with the support of Theatr Cymru's Associate Director, Rhian Blythe. Rhian said:
"It's a huge privilege to be part of this special project once again this year. It's great to offer development opportunities to playwrights for the fourth year in a row, and working alongside these playwrights makes the process very exciting. The plays this year are full of humour, energy and character, and I can't wait to share them with the Eisteddfod audience in a night that will hopefully be full of laughter and fun".
Catch Wes Wes! in Caffi Maes B at 6pm between 3 and 6 August 2026 (Monday to Thursday). Free entry with a ticket to the Maes.
We will be announcing the cast soon - keep an eye out!
