Theatr Cymru is delighted to announce the creative team bringing new comedy play, Te Angladd (Funeral Tea) by Gruffudd Owen, to Welsh stages in spring 2027. Presented in association with Galeri Caernarfon, Te Angladd is a sequel to the hugely successful play, Parti Priodas (Wedding Party).

Rhian Blythe directs this new comedy play, with Elan Isaac supporting as Assistant Director. Alongside Rhian and Elan, the creative team includes Livia Jones as Set and Costume Designer, Elanor Higgins as Lighting Designer, Eädyth Crawford as Sound Designer and Composer and Cêt Haf as Physical Director. The original actors – Mared Llywelyn and Mark Henry-Davies – will return to the roles of Lowri, Idris and all the other memorable characters.

Te Angladd returns to the much-loved characters, witty writing and timeless themes that entertained Parti Priodas audiences. Playwright Gruffudd Owen developed the idea for the first play while taking part in Theatr Cymru’s New Playwrights Programme, before it was further developed and performed during the 2023 Llŷn and Eifionydd National Eisteddfod and touring across Wales in 2024 – winning the UK Theatre Award for Excellence in Touring for that tour. This year, Parti Priodas returned for a limited international tour to London, the North American Festival of Wales and New York – another milestone for the production and for Theatr Cymru.

A year after the events of the original play, Lowri and Idris' paths cross once again in Te Angladd, when an unexpected death compels them to face hard truths about their future. This new production will premiere at Galeri Caernarfon on 23 February 2027, before touring to theatres and rugby clubs across Wales until 20 March 2027.

Rhian Blythe, Director of Te Angladd and Associate Director of Theatr Cymru, said:

"I'm really excited to be working with this fantastic creative team, bringing together the talents of Elan, Livia, Eädyth, Elanor and Cêt to create a unique, playful and unexpected world. Having worked with some of them before and admired the work of others for a long time, I'm looking forward to developing our creative relationship and discovering a visual, musical and physical language for the story. Mared and Mark know the characters like the backs of their hands, of course, but this journey will take us to darker places, from the city to the farm, from the Greggs in the middle of nowhere to the chapel, combining the humour and emotion in Gruff's witty writing. I know that this is the best team to tell this story, and I can't wait to get started with them in the rehearsal room."
