Gareth Elis wins big at the BBC Audio Drama Awards 2023 for ‘Tremolo’

Young man dressed in a tuxedo stands in front of a low podium. There is a microphone in front of him. In his hands he is holding a glass award. He is smiling and looking straight in front of himself.

We were thrilled to see Gareth Elis’ success at this year’s BBC Audio Drama Awards for his work on ‘Tremolo’, winning the award for the best debut performance in any radio play or audio drama.

Over a year has passed since ‘Tremolo’s release. Recorded back–to-back in English and Welsh, this educational audio drama was produced by Illumine Theatre, with support from ourselves and Wales Gene Park. Playwright Lisa Parry (The Merthyr Stigmatist, The Order of the Object) wrote a powerful script tackling the subject of Early Onset Familial Alzheimer’s and explored questions regarding genetic testing.

Gareth Elis played Harri and other side characters who came into his story. He was shortlisted for the Marc Beeby Award at this year’s BBC Audio Drama Awards for his outstanding performance in the monologue. The ceremony took place last week in one of the BBC’s centres in London, and Gareth attended alongside Director Zoe Waterman and playwright Lisa Parry. We were thrilled to see the joy on their faces when they announced Gareth as the winner. Congratulations on your success from all of us here at Theatr Gen.
