Chwilio’r Chwedl
Theatr Gen is very proud to be part of Chwilio’r Chwedl, in conjunction with the Urdd Eisteddfod. The result of the project – Chwilio'r Chwedl - will be performed on the Urdd Eisteddfod field on 28 May, with Carmarthenshire primary school pupils performing as part of the event.
As part of the project, Theatr Gen commissioned six young playwrights to compose ten-minute scripts based on a legend or story from the Carmarthenshire area.
Here are the playwrights who were part of the project, as well as the stories that inspired them:
Del Evans (Merched Beca)
Martha Ifan (Gwenllian Cydweli)
Mirain Jones (Twm Sion Cati)
Mared Roberts (Drefach Felindre)
Hefin Robinson (Yr Hen Dderwen a Dewin Myrddin)
Rhiannon Williams (Gwiber Emlyn)
As part of the project, the playwrights were mentored by a professional playwright - Sarah Bickerton - in order to have development opportunities and increase understanding in the field. The scripts of the above young playwrights will be amongst work by a number of other playwrights, including Fflur Dafydd, and Carys Edwards is the director who will bring the whole piece together with the pupils for the Urdd Eisteddfod week.
During the week of the Eisteddfod, young pupils from primary schools throughout Carmarthenshire will perform the finished work of the playwrights on the field. For more information about the event, visit the Urdd Eisteddfod website: Chwilio'r Chwedl | Urdd Gobaith Cymru
