Young people from Palestine and Wales have been meeting digitally to make space for creative collaboration and to think, feel and write together.

In a new international project between Palestine’s ASHTAR Theatre and Wales’ Theatr Cymru, participants have been taking part in a series of online workshops which aim to amplify young voices and foster cross-cultural understanding.

Alongside Sian Elin James, our Participation Co-ordinator at Theatr Cymru, and Konrad Suder Chatterjee, Communication Officer and Resource Developer for ASHTAR Theatre, the workshops are led by the poets Alice S. Yousef and Nia Morais.

With support from Literature Wales, the project will culminate in the creation of a trilingual poem in Arabic, Welsh and English, as well as a short film featuring young participants from Wales and Palestine.

We can’t wait to share this film with you soon!

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the aim of the project?
This project aims to provide opportunities for young people from Palestine and Wales to engage in meaningful cultural exchange, dialogue and collaboration. Our workshops empower young participants to share their stories (if they want to) and perspectives, as well as develop their artistic skills and confidence.

How are you safeguarding the participants?
This project not only celebrates the artistic expressions of young people from Palestine and Wales but also acknowledges the profound challenges of conflict and displacement facing the Palestinian participants. ASHTAR Theatre and Theatr Cymru are fostering a supportive environment and creating a safe space for all participants to express their feelings. Regular debrief sessions are held between both organisations, addressing any safeguarding concerns as they arise.
