After enchanting audiences at the Llŷn and Eifionydd National Eisteddfod 2023, we’re delighted to announce that Yr Hogyn Pren is on its way to Opening Doors Festival, an international theatre festival for young audiences.

Yr Hogyn Pren is a wonderful production for children and families, combining intricate puppetry with a gripping story and ethereal music. Directed by Steffan Donnelly, we welcome back Owain Gwynn to the Creative Team as Puppetry Director and to the cast as puppeteer. Rhian Blythe will join the cast as the character Y Fam, alongside puppeteers Fred Davis and Chris Milford.

Broc, the captivating puppet, takes centre stage in this production. The eco-friendly puppet was developed with the acclaimed company Small World Theatre and – as the piece’s narrative goes – it is made from driftwood. The performance includes a magical soundscape and music by Lisa Jên Brown and Martin Hoyland, with an original script from author Elidir Jones. Luned Gwawr leads on costume.

Organised by Arad Goch Theatre Company, Opening Doors Festival offers an opportunity for children, young people and families in Wales to see some of the best theatre Productions in the world, as well as offering international programmers and producers the opportunity to experience a wealth of Welsh performing arts. The festival includes performances, workshops and talks in Aberystwyth town and at theatres across Wales.

Performances of Yr Hogyn Pren will take place on Aberystwyth promenade and at Aberystwyth Arts Centre, as well as visiting schools.
