The limited tour of Fy Enw i yw Rachel Corrie has come to an end and we’d like to thank all the artists and freelancers who were part of the production and the audiences that came to see it.
Fy Enw i yw Rachel Corrie is a powerful piece of theatre that gives voice to the thoughts, dreams and struggles of a young American woman who was killed by the Israeli army in 2003. A play that invites us to experience Rachel’s passionate commitment to justice and her deep compassion for the people of Gaza.
Over two decades since Rachel's death the messages are as relevant as ever, and unfortunately it raises profound questions about whether anything has changed positively in the region during the last twenty years?
Our intention in staging the play was to raise awareness and further understanding of the awful situation in Palestine and the catastrophic humanitarian crisis which continues for more than 2 million people in Gaza (half of them children).
We hope audiences in Caernarfon, Cardiff and Carmarthen connected with Rachel’s call for peace and compassion, and have been inspired to reflect on how we can all contribute to a more just and fair world.
As a company, we offered low ticket prices for these performances, so that audiences were able to donate to charities supporting those affected by the conflict in Gaza if they wish.
During the Fy Enw i yw Rachel Corrie tour, we have launched a new project with ASHTAR Theatre in Ramallah which brings young people from Wales and Palestine together to exchange culture, foster understanding, and to co-create while sharing ideas and stories. Through workshops, digital performances, and community engagement, the project will explore themes of home, peace and the power of artistic expression and community. We’ll share more about this project soon.
