After winning the Drama Medal competition at the Urdd Eisteddfod this year, we’re proud to welcome Elain Roberts to Theatr Gen as our next Young Playwright in Residence for 2023/24.

Originally from Pentre’r Bryn near New Quay, Elain is studying French and Politics at Bristol University.

Elain is the third playwright to step into the role within the company, following Rhiannon Mair Williams and Osian Davies.

The winning play, I/II?, is set in a toilet cubicle while the main character awaits a pregnancy test result – and this is the first play that Elain has ever written.

Steffan Donnelly, our Artistic Director said;

''It was a pleasure to judge the Drama Medal at this year's Urdd Eisteddfod. The winning play I/II? took us on a fantastic journey. It was a privilege to hear the main character's secrets and feelings through lively, subtle writing, using special spoken language. We look forward to welcoming Elain as Theatr Gen's new Young Playwright in Residence for next year.''

Congratulations Elain - we look forward to having you as our next Young Playwright in Residence for the coming year. Keep an eye out for more about Elain very soon.
