Theatr Gen Creu ar Daith: Pwy ’Sgrifennodd Honna?
Rehearsed readings throughout Wales of plays by Theatr Genedlaethol Cymru’s New Playwrights’ Group
Theatr Genedlaethol Cymru in association with S4C, Literature Wales, Pontio, Theatr Clwyd, Aberystwyth Arts Centre, Carmarthenshire Theatres, Wales Millennium Centre and Sherman Theatre.
Theatr Genedlaethol Cymru is pleased to announce details of its summer 2019 tour. The company will present rehearsed readings of new plays by its New Playwrights’ Group in 6 venues across Wales in June and July 2019. The Group has been meeting regularly since September 2018 to attend workshops with experienced playwrights in various locations across Wales. As a result of these workshops, the playwrights have been given the opportunity to experiment and refine their techniques; they are currently writing new plays and receiving feedback from experienced theatre directors as the work progresses. At the end of the writing period, rehearsed readings of the plays will be presented by professional actors in the venues participating in the project.

Theatr Gen Creu ar Daith: Pwy ’Sgrifennodd Honna?
Rehearsed readings of plays by members of Theatr Genedlaethol Cymru’s New Playwrights’ Group: Melangell Dolma, Cai Llewelyn Evans, Elin Gwyn, Miriam Elin Jones, Lowri Morgan, Naomi Nicholas, Sian Northey and Gruffudd Eifion Owen.
Theatr Genedlaethol Cymru’s New Playwrights’ Group 2019 project culminates in a series of rehearsed readings across Wales of new plays by the new wave of Welsh-language playwrights.
This is an opportunity to enjoy the fruits of 10 months of writing and development, under the guidance of Theatr Genedlaethol Cymru, by some of Wales’s most exciting new Welsh-language playwrights.
Each event will include readings of new plays by two playwrights, followed by a conversation with the playwrights, cast and directors.
Arwel Gruffydd, Theatr Genedlaethol Cymru’s Artistic Director, said:
“Opportunities for new Welsh-language playwrights to receive training and guidance as they seek to develop their craft are relatively few, as are the opportunities to present their plays in public, to receive feedback, and to learn from people’s response to their work. This project goes at least some of the way towards extending these opportunities. It is an act of some bravery on the part of any writer to present their work to the public for the first time, but this project provides these budding playwrights with guidance and input by experienced playwrights, directors and actors all along their journey. The aim is to develop the confidence of the new playwrights in their craft, and to create new work for the Welsh-language theatre that is bold, entertaining and relevant, and that reflects our lives and experiences in Wales today.”
