Eisteddfod 2018: Pentref Drama
7 – 11 August 2018
National Eisteddfod Cardiff 2018
‘Pentref Drama’ (the Drama Village) at the National Eisteddfod is the main focus for all theatre activities during the festival. Theatr Genedlaethol Cymru is proud to sponsor Pentref Drama, and works in partnership with the Eisteddfod and in association with a number of other institutions, to programme its activities at venues such as Theatr y Maes and Caffi’r Theatrau.
The National Eisteddfod Cardiff 2018, will take place in Cardiff Bay, as opposed to a traditional ‘Maes’ (field). Theatr y Maes this year will be located in Rehearsal Room 3, Wales Millennium Centre (next to Y Babell Lên, which will be located in the Weston Studio), and Caffi’r Theatrau will be located at Caffi Sïo, next to Craft in the Bay. There will be theatre related activities too in Y Babell Lên, Portland House, Y Senedd and Chapter, as well as at other locations. To access events happening at Theatr y Maes and Y Babell Lên and the Pavilion before 5pm each day, you will need to buy a wristband. For full details click here.
Caffi’r Theatrau is co-ordinated by Theatr Genedlaethol Cymru in partnership with the National Eisteddfod and Chapter in association with various other partners. These partners this year include Fran Wên, Theatr Bara Caws, Galeri, Pontio, Theatr Clwyd, Arad Goch, Sherman Theatre, Aberystwyth Arts Centre, Welsh National Opera. Here you will be able to enjoy a paned (or a cuppa), relax in an informal atmosphere, and hear more about the various venues’ and theatre and opera companies’ exciting future plans. There will be a variety of free events there throughout the week, with plenty to entertain the children too (including opportunities to dress up!).
We are proud also to support Y Babell Lên (Literary Pavilion), as it hosts this year a number of theatre related events.
