Prize winning play to be staged at National Eisteddfod

19/07/2017

Estron, the play that won the Drama Medal for playwright Hefin Robinson at the Abergavenny National Eisteddfod in 2016, will be performed at the Cwt Drama on the field of this year’s Anglesey National Eisteddfod at Bodedern.  This will be the main play of the week at the Drama Village, and it is presented by Theatr Genedlaethol Cymru in partnership with the National Eisteddfod of Wales.
Estron will be performed from Monday the 7th of August until Friday the 11th of August. This is an intriguing new play for the current generation, which tell the story of Alun.  Recent devastating events have turned his world upside down, but in the darkness he seeks solace in a visitor from another world.

Janet Aethwy will be directing the play (director of La Primera Cena, Maldwyn National Eisteddfod 2015).  Heledd Rees is the Set and Costume Designer, Will Evans is the Lighting Designer and James Marsh the Sound Designer and Engineer.

The actors are Gareth Elis, Ceri Elen and Elin Llwyd.

Hefin Robinson, author of Estron said;
“Estron is a theatrical reflection on our lives as human beings on this planet.  It’s a crazy, playful and emotional journey which reflects the loneliness and energy of the modern world.  It’s been a real pleasure to work with Janet and Theatr Genedlaethol to develop the script for the Cwt Drama, hoping that Estron offers a new and modern theatre experience to this generation. I look forward to sharing the play with an audience for the first time.”

Arwel Gruffydd, Theatr Genedlaethol Cymru’s Artistic Director said;
“Performing the work that won the Drama Medal in the Cwt Drama is well-established as one of the main theatrical events during Eisteddfod week.  It’s a pleasure for us as a company to present Hefin Robinson’s play, a new playwright who received an excellent comments from the Drama Medal judges. It’s a really special play and with all the tickets being sold for the corresponding performances over the past three years, I strongly advise the audience to secure their tickets well in advance to avoid disappointment!”
